287 projects from 59 countries to participate at the 12th ThyssenKrupp Elevator Architecture Award

A total of 2,692 architects in 1,495 teams have been considered as eligible for this year’s award and a total of 287 projects have been submitted to the competition.

In the competition, which has been organized biannually since 1988 in different metropolises of the world, architects design the most functional usage for a selected building to be built in the city have been awarded. The 12th edition of the internationally prestigious ThyssenKrupp Elevator Architecture Award aims to select the best design for the “Istanbul Disaster Prevention and Education Center” that is to be built in Bakirkoy, Istanbul.

At this edition, besides renowned architects, the Jury includes the Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor, Kadir Topbas.

The Jury will meet twice to review project proposals submitted and select the most suitable projects. The Awards Ceremony will take place on December, 14th.The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, on its discretion, may award the final design to the winners.


For the project, a piece of land of 27,000 square meters has been allocated. The center will be equipped with audiovisual educational appliances and simulation systems to recreate the experiences of earthquake, hurricane, firefighting, smoke, inundation, tsunami, first aid and emergency communications. In the center, there will be a planetarium, a library, information boards and seminar and meeting halls that will serve to inform the visitors.
